Yuelu Calligraphy and Painting Institute Newly Founded

The new site presenting Yuelu Research Institute of Chinese Calligraphy and Painting (Yuelu Calligraphy and Painting Institute for short) officially opened on the morning of September 10th, marking a new cultural emblem of Yuelu Academy, the one-thousand-year-old institution of higher education.

Leaders from the Publicity Department of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and Hunan University attended the nameplate-unveiling ceremony and later the seminar on Wang Deshui’s works.

Yuelu Calligraphy and Painting Institute was set up in 2012, chaired by Mr. Wang Deshui, the 55th generation of the offsprings of Wang Xizhi, a Chinese calligrapher in the Jin Dynasty (265-420), traditionally referred to as the Sage of Calligraphy. As a famous sojourner artist in Japan, he has earned high reputation and held the posts of Director of Research Institute of Chinese painting and calligraphy in Japan and President of the Association of Southeast Asian Culture and Arts Exchange. According to Mr. Wang, focus will be on the inheritance and promotion of Huxiang calligraphy and paintings. Relevant personnel trainings will be carried out, and more extensive international exchanges on calligraphy and painting will be launched.
