The Surroundings of Hunan  University

Hunan University is situated at the foot of the picturesque Mount Yuelu and on the west bank of the rippling Xiang River. The historical sites and modern buildings complement each other in the beautiful tree-lined school yard.

The university offers the following services to facilitate international students’ living inChina. 

Banks

Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Constructional Bank of China, China Everbright Bank all set branches at Hunan University on south and north campuses and in each student residential area, providing convenient depositing and withdrawing services, as well as money exchanges between RMB and foreign currencies. There are many ATMs at the university where students can deposit and withdraw cash conveniently. 

Postal and Telecommunications

Post office and telecommunication agencies on campus provide services of remittance, deposit and telecommunications. 

Hospital and Medical Insurance

The university’s hospital is available for students when they are sick. Besides, other large-scale hospitals, such as the Fourth Hospital of Changsha, the Affiliated Hospital of Hunan Academy of Chinese Medicine, the Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University also provide convenient service for students if needed.

Students who will study here are required to buy medical insurance. The Chinese government buys it for students under Chinese government scholarship programs, while self-financed students must pay for their insurance by themselves after coming toChina. The medical insurance company can reimburse a certain percent of medical costs within the insurance coverage. Costs arising from VIP registering, putting in false teeth, buying glasses because of near-sightedness or nutrient tonics, abortion, cosmetic surgery shall be at their own expenses of students. International students are supposed to inform the teachers of International Students Office or contact the insurance company for the settlement of claim when they are hospitalized.

Urban Transportation

There are school buses commuting between the south campus and the north campus. In addition, many bus routes are available connecting the university with major shopping centers downtown, hospitals, the airport, and the railway station. It is also very convenient to take a taxi in Changsha. Taxi service is available around the clock.

Booking Train or Air Tickets

International students can book train and air tickets from Ticket  Service Center on campus. 

Shopping Centers and Supermarkets

Surrounded by other universities, Hunan University is located at the University Town which is on the western bank of the Xiang River where students can enjoy the business boom and live a convenient life. There are commercial streets near students’ residential area with all kinds of shops and restaurants which can meet students’ studying and living requirements. Besides, large-scale shopping malls and supermarkets are around the university. For example, Tongcheng Commercial Plaza, integrating the supermarket, the department store with convenience stores, is close to both north and south campuses. Your-Mart, a supermarket near the students’ apartment on south campus, mainly sells food, aquatic products, daily necessities, clothing and so on. Better-life  Commercial Plaza, close to the north campus, hosts a collection of main-stream brands and fine-quality products.
